Velouria: *sniff-sniff* *sniff-sniff-sniff* Hmm... Where did Shigure go to? I wonder why his scent is all the way out in the hills. That seems odd. But he wasn't anywhere around camp...

Shigure: *singing*

Velouria: I think that's him. But what's he doing out here? And who are all those people around him? ...Hm? Wait... Those aren't people. They're forest animals! Rabbits, squirrels...even wolves. And they're all sitting together so quietly.

Shigure: I think that's enough for one day. How did you like it?

Velouria: It's impossible... He's trying to talk to them.

Shigure: Ah! Who's there?! Wait! No! Don't go!

Velouria: They ran off... I must have frightened them. Sorry about that, Shigure.

Shigure: They were just startled, Velouria. Frankly, I was too! But don't worry about it. They can't help being a little shy. So tell me, what are you doing all the way out here?

Velouria: Searching for you, Shigure. Growing up so far apart prevented us from bonding as children. I feel as though I barely know you, Elder Brother. Perhaps we could speak. I would like us to be friends.

Shigure: O-oh, I see. I don't know what to say. I'm really not the most interesting person around... You might have a better time talking with someone more outgoing.

Velouria: That's not the point...

Shigure: Please, you shouldn't feel obligated to be my friend just because we're related. And to be honest, I'm not in the most social mood right now. Please, excuse me...

(Shigure leaves)

Velouria: Agh, don't go. Shigure... What a pain in the neck.

Velouria: *sigh* I can't find Shigure anywhere today... Perhaps he went back to that clearing out in the hills... Yeah, he's probably playing around with those forest animals again... Heehee. Looks like I was right. Shigure!

Shigure: Velouria?! What are you doing out here? Ah! No! Don't go!

Velouria: Wow, they're running away so quickly... Looks like I got in your way again. Sorry about that, Shigure.

Shigure: N-no, don't worry about that. They aren't used to other people being around here. It's easy to startle them.

Velouria: O-oh... It's incredible how well you get along with these animals... They don't seem to like me at all, even though you and I have the same parents...

Shigure: Why were you looking for me again? Did you need something?

Velouria: I would still like to be friends with you. We may be siblings, but it's almost as though we're strangers. The point is, you're my only brother in the whole world. We should really know each other.

Shigure: I see. Listen, I'm sorry for being cold the other day. The truth is, it makes me happy that you care so much. I'm your brother, and I don't want to let you down.

Velouria: Really? You mean it? Then it's OK for me to stay here with you for a while? Maybe you can call back those animals from before?

Shigure: Honestly, I don't think they would be comfortable around you.

Velouria: Oh really? Why not? They all seem so fond of you. If I work hard, perhaps they will want to be friends with me, too. Can you show me how to bond with them?

Shigure: Hmm... I'm not sure if this will help, but... Animals are highly attuned to the feelings of people around them. Most likely, they detected something in you that drove them off.

Velouria: But I've never thought of the animals as enemies before.

Shigure: They can sense what you were thinking. Were you sizing them up to figure out which one might make a tasty dinner? Even just for a moment?

Velouria: No! I'm not a glutton.

Shigure: Of course not, I'm sorry. That's just the biggest reason I could think of for them to run away. I appreciate how sincere you are about befriending them. I'll try to think of what can be done to make them feel safe around you. There has to be a way to help out my adorable sister.

Velouria: I certainly hope so!

A Support

Velouria: Umm, Shigure?

Shigure: What's wrong, Velouria? You look upset.

Velouria: I've just been thinking about the animals from the other day...

Shigure: Oh, did you want to go pay them a visit? I was just about to head in that direction if you want to come along. Are you ready to prove that you don't mean them any harm?

Velouria: About that... I've been reflecting... I think that I was feeling upset when I ran into them the other day.

Shigure: What do you mean?

Velouria: When I saw how close you were with those animals, I felt overcome with jealousy. It was frustrating that you wanted to spend time with them but not with me. In that moment, I just wanted them to get away from you. That must be why they scampered away. They knew I saw them as enemies...

Shigure: Velouria, I'm glad you thought about this and talked to me.

Velouria: The point is, I won't be going back out there with you again.

Shigure: Don't say that. You should absolutely go back. By opening up, you've changed, and the animals will be able to tell. I think they'll be more welcoming.

Velouria: I'm not so sure...

Shigure: Well I am. You didn't have to admit to feeling jealous, but you did anyway. That tells me that you've got a good soul. They'll be able to see that, too. Look! There's a rabbit hopping this way.

Velouria: Ah! What do I do?

Shigure: Just calm down... Relax, and take a breath. Quiet your mind and be peaceful... Just think about how you want to be friends with the furry critter.

Velouria: O-OK, I'll try... Ah!! I'm petting him! Shigure, he's letting me pet him! The little bunny seems so happy...

Shigure: See? I told you things would be fine.

Velouria: Heehee... It's just like you said!

Shigure: Now you can meet all of the other animals. I think you will get along with everyone. Let's wander to the clearing in the woods. I bet your friends will be waiting there.

Velouria: OK! Thank you, Shigure.
