Percy: Mom, I'm home! Is dinner ready yet?
Peri: There you are, Percy! Dinner is cooling on the table.
Percy: Great—thanks! I'm gonna dig in.
Peri: Hey, hold it! Did you wash your hands yet?
Percy: Oops, I forgot. I'll run and wash them now.
Peri: Geez, what's your hurry? There's plenty of food!
Percy: I have to eat fast... Every moment I'm not training is a missed opportunity. Eat fast, train fast! I need to get big and strong quickly. How else will I be able to keep you safe?
Peri: Ohhh, you're gonna protect me? That's so sweet!
Percy: I promise, I'll never let anything bad happen to you. You can count on me!
Peri: Heehee, I know I can. But please, chew your food properly and watch your manners at the table. It will be awfully hard to train if you have a bad tummyache.
Percy: Good point, Mom. For the time being, I'll train myself to eat quickly but efficiently.
Peri: Thank you. Go ahead and eat up before your food gets cold.

Percy: Mom, I'm back!
Peri: Percy! Your knee is bleeding!
Percy: Fear not, Mom! This scratch is merely a symbol of my dedication to training.
Peri: We have to disinfect that cut right away.
Percy: No, no, it's OK! I'm sure it will be fine if we leave it alone.
Peri: If that scrape gets infected, it'll be big trouble. Now hold still...
Percy: Don't be such a worrywart...
Peri: I'm your mother. How could I not worry about you? I'm gonna put the medicine on now...
Percy: Youch! You didn't say that would sting! Can you try to be a little more gentle?
Peri: Percy, toughen up! How are you gonna protect me if you act like a little weakling?
Percy: What? No, I was just...pretending! Yeah, I was totally just pretending it hurt. I can't believe you actually fell for that. Go ahead, put on more medicine. I can take it!
Peri: I only needed a tiny amount, Percy. How did you get this injury anyway?
Percy: Well, I was running down a mountain as fast as I could. But I lost my footing and tripped.
Peri: And you only got this itty-bitty scrape? Gee, you sure are lucky. Please, knock off this reckless training. I don't want you to really hurt yourself.
Percy: But... How can I get strong enough to protect you if I quit training?
Peri: It's sweet that you care so much. That means the world to me. But if protecting me means you're gonna put yourself in danger... Well, then I don't want you to protect me at all. I love you, Percy. I just want you to stay safe, OK?
Percy: You're right... I'm sorry, Mom.
Peri: It's OK. I'm just glad you understand. Now, let's eat!
Percy: Yay! All that tumbling made me hungry!

Percy: Hey, Mom...
Peri: What's wrong, Percy? You look sad today...
Percy: I've been wondering... I don't know if I can ever get strong enough to protect you...
Peri: What makes you say that?
Percy: There are so many strong people all around the camp. Much stronger than me... What do I do if I come across a foe who is more powerful than I am? Thinking about that makes me lose confidence.
Peri: Hmm, I see. You're so young, Percy. You have plenty of time to get as strong as anybody!
Percy: You're just trying to make me feel better...
Peri: I'm not! It's obvious how hard you've been training. Someday, I bet you'll be the strongest person in the world. Just keep working at it!
Percy: Someday isn't good enough. What if evil rears its head before I'm ready to defeat it?
Peri: Don't worry about that! I'll keep you safe until you finish training. Then when you're the strongest warrior in the whole wide world... You can protect me.
Percy: That sounds like a great plan. I'm gonna bust my tail and work even harder. Then no enemy will dare challenge me.
Peri: I'll cheer you on every step of the way. Now, how about I whip up something special for us to eat?
Percy: That sounds great! Thanks, Mom.
