Leo: Painting again, Shigure?
Shigure: Hello, Father. Sorry, I didn't hear you come in. I know this is no time for artwork, since we're at war and all.
Leo: Son, I didn't come here to criticize you. In fact, I think your talent is a rare gift. But considering that we're in the middle of a war, you can't focus solely on art. Granted, I wish you could. It's clearly a wonderful use of your time.
Shigure: That's kind of you to say, but I'm not so sure about that.
Leo: Don't be so modest. In different times, you would probably be a famous artist. Now that I think about it, I hate to think of you squandering that potential. There must be some way for me to support you...
Shigure: What do you mean?
Leo: Let me think for a minute... I know just what to do. How would you feel about holding a solo exhibition?
Shigure: An exhibition? I could never do that! Besides, our troops are on the advance. The setup alone would be way more work than it's worth.
Leo: Why do you say that? I don't foresee any issues there. We'll simply use a spare tent and enlist some villagers to help.
Shigure: B-but it seems so vain to reserve a whole tent just for my personal use.
Leo: It's obvious that the troops are exhausted from the trials of war. Their fighting spirit is beginning to wane. I believe your exhibition could be a perfect reprieve from their hardship.
Shigure: I'm not sure...
Leo: Don't you see? An exhibition would benefit our entire community. This show isn't just for you. It's for everybody. If the idea isn't to your liking, I won't force you to do anything. What do you say?
Shigure: OK, fine... We can give it a shot. But I have to admit that it makes me a bit anxious.
Leo: Heh, I understand. We should get started right away. I'll head into town to recruit some volunteers.
(Leo leaves)
Shigure: Thank you, Father.

Shigure: Hello, Father...
Leo: There you are, Shigure. Is something on your mind?
Shigure: Well... You've done so much to make this exhibition a possibility. I just wanted to say thanks.
Leo: There's no need for that. Honestly, I haven't done all that much. Everything is coming together swiftly due to all the hard work from the villagers. They were galvanized into action because everyone is excited to see your work. You should take pride in your efforts.
Shigure: Hmm...
Leo: Are you feeling nervous?
Shigure: Of course. But mostly I'm concerned about my newest painting. It's just not coming together like I hoped it would.
Leo: Is this the one you're painting just for the big occasion? A brand-new work would obviously add prestige to the affair. Unfortunately, we're running out of time. If the painting isn't going well, you may have to finish it after the show.
Shigure: I promised myself that I would get it done. So many people have come together to give me this opportunity. And the final piece really unites the show. I have to keep going.
Leo: Oh... Well, I understand. Just don't work too hard. If you make yourself ill, all this effort will have been for nothing.
Shigure: I'll be sure to take care, Father. Now if you'll excuse me, I should get back to it.
Leo: Of course. Do your best, Son.
(Shigure leaves)
Leo: He sure is fixated on that painting. I wonder how it will turn out...

Leo: The big day has finally arrived. Shigure's exhibition is under way. Time to see how things are going... Wow... What an exceptional crowd. There are more people here than I imagined. And from what I'm overhearing, everyone seems to love the art. Heh... Yes, I think it's safe to say that this event is a great success. Wait a minute... Where is Shigure? I don't see him anywhere...
Shigure: *pant...pant*
Leo: Shigure?! What happened? Why are you only arriving just now? How could you be late for your own show?!
Shigure: Sorry about that, Father. I've been up all night working on my painting.
Leo: The one that's been causing you so much trouble lately?
Shigure: Y-yes, that's the one...
Leo: For the gods' sake, don't you remember when I told you not to overdo it? Why are you so fixated on this piece? Aren't there enough canvases here?
Shigure: I promised myself that I would complete it, no matter what. I made this because I'm thankful for everything you've done for me.
Leo: This painting... It's your mother and me.
Shigure: Yes, it's a portrait of you two.
Leo: So this is what you've been devoting all your time to?
Shigure: Indeed. My love for you and Mother cannot be measured. You brought me into this world. Without you, I never would have been able to paint. So I wanted to put all those feelings into this portrait.
Leo: Shigure... You've been acting so nonchalant while keeping this secret from me. I had no idea...
Shigure: F-Father, it hurts when you hug me so tightly... Hahaha.
Leo: Sorry about that. It's just that you've made me very proud.
Shigure: I feel the same way about you, Father.
Leo: Heh... Wait a minute. This isn't the time for a heart-to-heart! We have to put this painting on display!
Shigure: OK. It's a little embarrassing though...
Leo: Why? Because it's personal? Son, it wouldn't be much of an exhibit if the finest painting here wasn't on display! Let's go find the perfect spot for it. You don't really mind, do you?
Shigure: No, of course not. I know just where it should go!
