Keaton: Hey, Shigure! Back to painting again?

Shigure: Hello, Father. Sorry, I didn't hear you come in. I know this is no time for painting, since we're at war and all.

Keaton: Why are you apologizing? I don't see what's so bad about following your passion, even in wartime. Take me for example. I still hunt whenever the urge strikes! Keep working on those paintings, and one day you could become a great artist!

Shigure: That's kind of you to say, but I doubt it.

Keaton: Don't be so modest. It won't make you any more successful. In a wolfskin pack, those who contribute the most always walk with their heads up. Maybe you would feel better if you saw how much people like your work.

Shigure: What do you mean?

Keaton: Hmm... What's the best possible way to show off your talent? I know! What if we held an art exhibition to display all your paintings?

Shigure: A-an exhibition? I could never do that. Besides, our troops are on the advance. The setup alone would be way more work than it's worth.

Keaton: Why do you say that? It can't be so hard. All we have to do is reserve a tent and get the troops and the villagers to help out.

Shigure: B-but it seems so vain to reserve a whole tent just for my personal use.

Keaton: This isn't just for you. Everyone's exhausted from the war going on, right? An art show could be a great way for the villagers and soldiers to unwind. Your work could be a huge relief! An excuse to have some fun!

Shigure: I don't know...

Keaton: Listen, if you don't want to, no pressure. I can try and come up with a different plan. What do you think?

Shigure: OK, fine... We can try it, I guess. But I have to admit that it makes me a bit anxious.

Keaton: Outstanding! I'll go ask some villagers to help out with the event. See you soon!

(Keaton leaves)

Shigure: OK. Thank you, Father.

Shigure: Hello, Father...

Keaton: Shigure! You look a little sad. Is something going on?

Shigure: Well... You've done so much to make this exhibition a possibility. I just wanted to say thanks.

Keaton: Stop it, you're embarrassing me! I really haven't done anything special. The villagers deserve all the credit. They're excited for the show! All their hard work is making everything come together quickly. If you really want to thank someone, you should start with yourself!

Shigure: O-oh...

Keaton: Hmm? Are you nervous?

Shigure: Of course. But mostly I'm concerned about my newest painting. It's just not coming together like I hoped it would.

Keaton: Oh yeah? Is this the one you're making just for the exhibition? I'm surprised that you're still trying to finish it. There isn't much time left. Couldn't you return to it after the exhibition?

Shigure: I promised myself that I would get it done. So many people have come together to give me this opportunity. And the final piece really unites the show. I have to keep going.

Keaton: Do whatever you want, but please try to be careful. If you work too hard and make yourself sick, all of this will be pointless.

Shigure: Sure, of course. Thank you, Father. I should get back to my painting.

Keaton: OK. Good luck!

(Shigure leaves)

Keaton: I've never seen Shigure so focused. What in the world is he painting? I can't help but be curious...

Keaton: The big day is here. Shigure's exhibition has finally started! Time to go take a look inside the tent... Wow! Look at all these people! And they're all here to see his paintings. From the murmurs I'm overhearing, it seems like everyone loves the show! There's no doubt about it. This is a smash success! Are you happy, Shigure? Wait... Where is he? How could he possibly be missing?

Shigure: *pant*...*pant*...

Keaton: Shigure? Are you just now getting here? How could you show up late to your own exhibition?!

Shigure: Sorry about that, Father. I've been up all night finishing my painting.

Keaton: All night?! Just to finish one painting?

Shigure: Y-yes...

Keaton: How could you act so recklessly? There are plenty of excellent paintings here already. Why was one more so important? Look around. Can't you see all the smiling faces here? They all love your work.

Shigure: I see that. But I promised myself that I would complete it, no matter what. I made this because I'm thankful for everything you've done for me, Father.

Keaton: WHA—?! This painting... It's of me and your mom?!

Shigure: Yes, it's a portrait of you and Mother. I wanted to use this chance to paint it, at any cost.

Keaton: So this is what you've been spending all your time on?

Shigure: Yes, Father. My love for you two cannot be measured. You brought me into this world. Without you, I never would have been able to paint. So I wanted to put all those feelings into this portrait.

Keaton: Sh-Shigure, you... Who told you to paint this anyway? All of this would have been pointless if you had made yourself sick. You're such a big idiot!

Shigure: F-Father, it hurts when you hug me so tightly... Hahaha.

Keaton: Thank you for this gorgeous painting. You make me very proud, Son.

Shigure: I'm lucky to have such a supportive father.

Keaton: We both must be lucky... Whoops! We have to get going. This painting isn't going to display itself! We've got to show it off!

Shigure: O-OK... It's a little embarrassing, though...

Keaton: Haha, maybe a little bit. But this exhibit wouldn't be complete without the best piece on the wall! Come on! Let's find the perfect place for your new piece!

Shigure: O-OK!
