Kaden: There you are, Shigure. I see that you're back at the easel again.

Shigure: Hello, Father. Sorry, I didn't hear you come in. I know this is no time for painting, since we're at war and all...

Kaden: Why are you apologizing to me? Feel free to paint whenever you want. I'm not judging you. You have such a keen talent, I honestly think you should paint even more. With a great deal of practice, I think you could become a truly great artist.

Shigure: That's very flattering, Father.

Kaden: Why are you so modest? I think everyone should know how gifted you are! There must be a way for everyone to enjoy all your fine canvases.

Shigure: What do you mean?

Kaden: Hmmm... Let me think... I've got it! How would you feel about holding a solo exhibition?

Shigure: A-an exhibition? I don't know, Father. And besides, our troops are on the advance. The setup alone would be way more work than it's worth.

Kaden: I really don't think it would be any trouble. All we need to do is reserve a tent and announce it to the troops and villagers.

Shigure: B-but it seems so vain to reserve a whole tent just for my personal use.

Kaden: This would be for everyone. I think it might spread some joy throughout town. It could be a reprieve from the endless onslaught of war. Isn't that a wonderful thought?

Shigure: I'm not sure...

Kaden: I certainly won't force you. So, what do you say?

Shigure: OK, fine... Maybe we should give the exhibition a try. But I have to admit that I'm a little scared about the idea.

Kaden: Don't be! This will be quite an event. Let's strike while the iron's hot. I'm going to ask around town for help!

(Kaden leaves)

Shigure: Thank you, Father.

Shigure: Hello, Father...

Kaden: Shigure! Is something wrong? You look a bit sad...

Shigure: Well... You've done so much to make this exhibition a possibility. I just wanted to say thanks.

Kaden: That's sweet of you. But I haven't really done anything special. Honestly, the villagers have done most of the legwork. Everyone is pitching in because they can't wait to see your paintings.

Shigure: If you say so...

Kaden: Huh? Shigure, are you nervous?

Shigure: Sure, of course. But I'm mostly concerned about my newest painting. It's just not coming together like I hoped it would.

Kaden: Is this the one that you're making just for the exhibition? Don't get me wrong, I'm excited to see your new work. But there isn't much time before the day of the show. Maybe you should just focus on the art that is already complete.

Shigure: I promised myself that I would get it done. So many people have come together to give me this opportunity. And the final piece really unites the show. I have to keep going.

Kaden: Are you sure? Please, don't push yourself too hard. If you get sick, this will all be for nothing.

Shigure: I appreciate your concern, but I'll be fine. I should get back to painting.

Kaden: OK. Good luck!

(Shigure leaves)

Kaden: So he's working on a new piece, huh? I wonder what he's painting...

Kaden: The big day is finally here! It's time for Shigure's solo exhibition! I wonder how things are going in the tent. Here I go... W-WOW! This is incredible! The show is totally packed. And everyone looks so happy. Isn't this amazing, Shigure?! Wait a minute. He's not here. Where in the world could he be?

Shigure: *pant*...*pant*...

Kaden: Sh-Shigure?! What happened? Why are you out of breath? Are you just now getting here? How could you be late to your own exhibition?!

Shigure: I'm very sorry, Father. I got here as soon as I could. I had to stay up all night to put the finishing touches on this painting.

Kaden: WHAAT?! You stayed up ALL NIGHT?!

Shigure: Y-yes, I did...

Kaden: Don't you recall when I told you not to push yourself? There are already a ton of gorgeous works hanging here. Take a look around. Your art is clearly making everyone happy. Why would you jeopardize the show just for one more painting?

Shigure: I promised myself that I would complete it, no matter what. I made this because I'm thankful for everything you've done for me, Father.

Kaden: Wh-what? Is this...your mother and me...?

Shigure: Yes, it is...

Kaden: So this is what you've been working on so tirelessly?

Shigure: My love for you two is beyond measure. You brought me into this world. Without you, I never would have been able to paint. So I wanted to pour those feelings of gratitude into this portrait.

Kaden: Shigure, I don't know what to say. You really are an amazing son! I'm the happiest father in the world!

Shigure: It's hard to breathe when you hug me so tightly...hahaha.

Kaden: I couldn't be more proud. You really captured my likeness quite well.

Shigure: Thanks, Father.

Kaden: Heheheh! There's no time to spare. We have to hustle and get this painting on display!

Shigure: O-OK... It's a little embarrassing, though.

Kaden: Why? Because it's an image of your eye-catching parents? This is something to be proud of, not embarrassed! You were right. It's clearly the finest piece in the whole show. Don't you agree, Shigure?

Shigure: S-sure, Father!
