Kana(F): Hmph!
Shigure: What troubles you, Kana?
Kana(F): Papa can't play with me. I'm bored.
Shigure: I'm surprised that your father ever has any time to play. He's endlessly busy.
Kana(F): Your mama's just the same.
Shigure: Yes, true. Your father and my mother both carry such heavy burdens. I can hardly blame them for not having much time to spend with us children.
Kana(F): B-b-but doesn't my papa know how bored I get around here? I can't stand it sometimes. Don't you feel the same exact way?
Shigure: No. I've outgrown that sort of thinking.
Kana(F): What?! You don't want to play with your mama anymore?
Shigure: I love spending time with her. But if she can't, I don't get upset.
Kana(F): How can you not? You just don't like playing with your mama! You must be one of those awful things I've heard about! You're a...a... TEENAGER!
Shigure: Yes, I'm of a teen year. But a teenager? I just don't think of myself that way.
Kana(F): You are! You're a teenager! That's worse than having cooties! Run away! RUN AWAY!
(Kana(F) leaves)
Shigure: What the—?

Kana(F): Oh, it's you, Shigure.
Shigure: Kana, please, about our last talk...
Kana(F): What, teenager? Still hate your mama, teenager?
Shigure: No, please. I don't. You've misunderstood.
Kana(F): It seems clear to me.
Shigure: When you get to my age, it's natural not to be tied to your mother's apron strings.
Kana(F): What does that even mean?
Shigure: In the journey from childhood to adulthood, we all gain some distance from parents. That's how we become independent.
Kana(F): Independent? But I need my papa. We've only just been reunited! Am I wrong for wanting to have fun with Papa even once I'm an adult too?
Shigure: Of course not. I want to spend lots of time with my mother as I grow older. But children maintain a healthy distance with their parents as time goes on.
Kana(F): What sort of distance is healthy?! Who told you this junk?! Admit it, Shigure! You've become one of those evil monsters! A teenager! Why can't you just say it?!
Shigure: I don't like that label.
Kana(F): And you hate your parents! Just admit that you do!
Shigure: But I don't. I just don't cling to them.
Kana(F): Teenager, teenager!
Shigure: You're acting like more like a teenager than I am, Kana.
Kana(F): Me?! Take it back!
Shigure: I mean that you're behaving like a brat right now.
Kana(F): That's not what being a teenager is! You're one. Not me! I hate you, Shigure. You hear me? I HATE YOU.
(Kana(F) leaves)
Shigure: Wait, Kana! I don't hate my parents. And I don't hate you! Why are you taking all of this so wrong? Ugh. I'm really digging myself a hole here...

Shigure: Kana, if I could have a word?
Kana(F): Spare me your evil teenspeak!
Shigure: I need to tell you how much it hurts my feelings when you say things like that. I also want to apologize for saying that you were being a brat.
Kana(F): Yes? Go on.
Shigure: With my apology? I thought I just did that. But, er... All right. You love your parents. I shouldn't have told you it's natural to separate. That may be my way. But it won't be the same for everyone.
Kana(F): I'm glad to hear it, Shigure. But, uh, I'm sorry too.
Shigure: You have nothing to apologize for, Kana.
Kana(F): I've given it some thought. Maybe I'm starting to be one of THEM. A teenager, like you said. But I'm going to hold on to my papa for dear life, no matter what!
Shigure: We all go through a rebellious phase.
Kana(F): Rebellious phase?
Shigure: Or so I'm told about growing up. I think I may have skipped it accidentally. Maybe by being in my Deeprealm, I grew up out of step with my parents. Maybe my rebellious phase is still coming.
Kana(F): You think?
Shigure: Our parents walk with us on the path from childhood to adulthood. For the first part anyway. But did ours? Now and then. But mostly...not. Maybe you and I are more alike than we realized. Will we rebel? Or won't we?
Kana(F): I vote for no. I don't like fighting.
Shigure: Then you might be in luck. Maybe you'll skip being a teenager, Kana.
Kana(F): Maybe you will too! You don't seem like you enjoy fighting either.
Shigure: Perhaps.
Kana(F): What a relief! That's all behind us. We're friends now, right?
Shigure: We always were, Kana!

Kana(F): Shigure!
Shigure: Good friend, what's wrong?
Kana(F): Er, Shigure...
Shigure: Yes? Come on. We don't need to keep anything from each other.
Kana(F): I...I think I might be turning into one of those teen creatures! Maybe?
Shigure: Do you? You were hoping to skip the whole rebellious phase. You didn't rebel against your father in some way, did you?
Kana(F): No, of course not! But after you and I last spoke about that rebellious phase... I can't stop thinking about it. I've got to do something to rebel—just a little! I want you to join my very small rebellion, Shigure.
Shigure: You want me to join your cause? How far we've come. It seemed that once you hated me.
Kana(F): I never did. I just hated the idea of changing. You were always my friend.
Shigure: Then I will join your little rebellion, Kana. Just the two of us?
Kana(F): Sure, I think that's best.
Shigure: I suppose, since we both know what it was like to grow up in the Deeprealms.
Kana(F): We survived that! And we'll survive this rebellious phase too!
Shigure: An ideal plan, Kana. We'll come out the other side as incredible adults! Our parents will be proud that we've managed it all on our own.
Kana(F): Ha! My papa and your mama won't even recognize us! Let's go!
