Azura: Hisame, could I speak with you for just a moment?

Hisame: Ah, hello, Mother. What do you need—? Is that...? Why do you have that?!

Azura: This? I found it in among my things while I was cleaning my room earlier. I know it isn't mine and thought it might belong to you. Wait a minute... Is this your diary?

Hisame: Y-yes, Mother. It is... You...didn't read any of it, did you?

Azura: Of course not. I could tell just from looking at it that it was a diary. Besides, this little lock on the front kept me out.

Hisame: I'd forgotten about the lock. I'm glad I put it on there... Could I have the diary back now? Hey...why are you gripping it so hard?

Azura: Er, well... I guess I am a little bit curious about what you've written in there.

Hisame: You may be my dear mother, but there are some things I want to keep private!

Azura: That's fair, I suppose. Boys your age probably have all kinds of private things they'd rather keep secret.

Hisame: Why do you have to phrase it like that? It just makes it sound embarrassing! And in any case, that diary is from when I was much, much younger. I don't even remember what I wrote.

Azura: You've completely forgotten?

Hisame: Yes, I have no idea at all what's in there. Can I please have it back now?

Azura: If you insist.

Hisame: Thank you. Now, if you don't mind, I'll be on my way.

(Hisame leaves)

Azura: He sure took off quickly. As much as I want to respect his privacy... I'm really curious what is in that diary, now.

Azura: Hey there, Hisame... After talking about your diary the other day, I wanted to ask you some things.

Hisame: Oh no, you did read it, didn't you?

Azura: No! I was telling the truth before. I didn't even lift a page. It's just that...when you were growing up, we couldn't spend much time together. So I was wondering if you'd like to share some of what you wrote back then.

Hisame: Oh...

Azura: We lost a lot of time, but I want to learn as much as I can about you. That's not so wrong, is it?

Hisame: No, I'm glad that you want to know more about me. Perhaps...we could read my old diary together? I really don't recall what I wrote.

Azura: Are you sure you're OK with that?

Hisame: I think it could be fun to look back at that time with you, Mother. Of course, I'll want to skip over anything we might find that I don't want to share. I hope that's OK.

Azura: Heehee, of course. Shall we start reading right now?

Hisame: Yes! I actually have the diary with me... And there's the key... Open! "Today is a good day, because Mother came to see me." "I'm only sad because she had to leave so soon afterward." "We got to play a lot today, though, so I won't be lonely when she's gone." Oh wow, it looks like I wrote about your visits on pretty much every page...

Azura: Hisame. You were always so patient with your father and I. Always waiting for us.

Hisame: I didn't realize I had written so much about you and Father in here... I thought this would have at least some stuff about my daily life. That's fine, though. It's nice to have these memories of when you two would visit.

Azura: This really makes me appreciate the time we can spend together now, Hisame.

Hisame: Me, too! I'm glad I'm here with you, Mother.

Azura: Hrm...

Hisame: Mother? You look unhappy. Is everything OK?

Azura: Oh! Hello, Hisame. Nothing's wrong— don't worry.

Hisame: If nothing is wrong, then what's making you look so sad? Is it something you don't feel you can discuss with your son?

Azura: No, it's that... Well, I just feel embarrassed even bringing it up. I was thinking about your diary again.

Hisame: You mean the one we were reading the other day?

Azura: Yes. I was so happy that you were willing to share that with me, but it also...hurt. It was tough to hear about how patiently and innocently you waited for us. We have no good excuse for making you feel so lonely all the time...

Hisame: Oh, Mother...

Azura: I know it's all part of the past now, but I can't help but feel horrible for it. Hisame, I am so sorry...

Hisame: Please don't let it drag you down so much. I'm more than happy to be with you now! Here, I feel like I live every day to its maximum potential. As a child, all I'd think about was when I might see you next, but here... I get to fight alongside you and all our friends! I've never been happier than I am here. So please—don't feel sad, Mother!

Azura: Thank you, Hisame. I'm happy to hear you say that.

Hisame: I barely did anything! But I'm glad you feel better.

Azura: I'm also happy because, from now on, we can spend plenty of time together!

Hisame: Me too!
