Chapter 2: Head over Heels for Her

And so the day of Tsubasa's debut came...

>The music video for Tsubasa's debut song "Feel" plays. Once it finishes, Itsuki and Touma are seen in the Hee Ho Mart. Itsuki is reading a magazine.

Shibuya

Touma: Whatcha reading there, Itsuki? Hmm... "Mystery of the Disappearing Models?"

Itsuki: Yeah. Guess I got curious.

Touma: Models disappearing, huh.. Actually, I'm kind of more surprised you read this stuff.

Itsuki: Well, the headline got my attention. I just picked it up for the article on the live concert at the 106.

Touma: Hey, cool! This has an article on Tsubasa too! ... Man, now that I'm seeing Tsubasa in magazines and music videos, it's finally hitting me that she's a real idol now. It sounds too good to be true. Her debut song was the one she sang for Ayaha, her music video was just the 106 craziness...

Itsuki: Ms. Maiko was in danger at the time, but I have to wonder if some of this was all part of her plan...

Touma: Seriously! When did she have the time to get footage of us? She's either really resourceful or just plain sneaky. But I guess for the guys in class, the music video was nothing compared to finding out Tsubasa's become an idol.

Itsuki: Yeah. It seems like she has crowds around her at every break now.

Touma: Sounds like she's giving it all she's got. She's probably over at the lesson studio today, too. Why don't you go say hi? I bet if you drop by, her motivation's gonna skyrocket.

Itsuki: You think?

Touma: Yep. I do. Now go on, go give her a pat on the back or something.

The player is given two choices on how to respond:

  • I think I will.
  • Sounds like a chore.

If the player chooses option 1:

???

If the player chooses option 2:

Itsuki: Sounds like a chore.

Touma: C'mon, man, don't say that. She's been your friend since forever, right? Keep that attitude up, and she won't be anymore.

Itsuki: Okay, okay. I'll head over.

Touma: Good.

>Touma leaves; however he sends Itsuki a text. The conversation is as follows:

Touma: don't forget what we just talked about. you gotta help out Tsubasa when she needs it. she should be at uzume lesson studio now

Touma: sometimes I worry about you, man. you just have these days where your head is in the clouds

Touma: sends a picture of a man with his arms crossed, looking bummed out

>As Itsuki moves in the mart, the salesclerk starts speaking.

Salesclerk: Welcome!

Itsuki: (Hm?)

>The camera shifts to another salesclerk; she is wearing a Black Frost mask.7

Itsuki: (Huh? A-A mask...? She's wearing a different colored uniform... Is she an employee here? She's standing at the register, but the "Registered Closed" sign is still on display... Don't any of the other customers or employees notice her...?)

Editor's note: This is the introduction to the second shop in the Hee Ho Mart.

>Itsuki walks into Uzume. He sees Barry coaching Tsubasa.

Barry: You gotta learn to dance with muscle memory! If you think about it too much, you're not gonna be able to sing too!

Tsubasa: G-Got it!

Barry: Awright, stop. That'll do for today!

>Barry leaves. Tsubasa notices Itsuki.

Tsubasa: Oh, Itsuki.

The player is given two options on how to respond:

  • Hey, Tsubasa.
  • How's everything going?

>If the player chooses option 1:

Itsuki: Hey, Tsubasa.

Tsubasa: Did you come to watch my practice?

Itsuki: Yeah. Looks like you're working really hard.

Tsubasa: Mhm. After all that stuff with Aya, I just feel like a huge weight's been lifted off my shoulders... I'm enjoying every moment of dancing and singing, now!

>Barry reappears.

Barry: Tsubasa's improved a whole ton from before! Going by Dia Witch terms, I'd say I'd rank her at abooouuut... episode seven.

Itsuki: I... have no idea what that means.

Barry: SHIT! Well, anyhow, I'd say you're good to go now. Oh my god! I just remembered! Tomorrow's the Dia Witch game release date! The preorder bonus... is calling out to me...! I have to hurry and get in line for the midnight release! All aboard the hype train! Choo choo!

>Barry runs out of the room.

Tsubasa: So... wait. Was he actually praising me, or...?

Itsuki: I... think so...?

Man's Voice: Are you done in here?

Tsubasa: Oh, sorry. We were just- Wha-!? Y-Yashiro Tsurugi!? In person!?

The player is given two options on how to respond:

  • You know him?
  • Who's he?

If the player chooses option 1:

???

If the player chooses option 2:

Itsuki: Who's he?

Yashiro: ... I asked a question, if you don't mind?

Itsuki: O-Oh, right. Sorry about that. Her lesson just finished, so we'll be out soon.

Yashiro: Lesson...? It looked more like children at play than anything else.

The player is given two options on how to respond:

  • That tone is unnecessary.
  • It's not play.

If the player chooses option 1:

Itsuki: That tone is kind of unnecessary, isn't it? Tsubasa's giving it her all.

Yashiro: Hm...? I'm only giving you my honest appraisal.

Itsuki: ...

Yashiro: In any case, you two are getting in the way of my own training. If you wish to play your little games, do it somewhere else. This is a training room for professionals, not an amateurs' playground.

Itsuki: Amateur... She's not an amateur. Tsubasa is an idol of Fortuna Entertainment, at the very least.

Yashiro: Fortuna... ... And that would make you a member of Fortuna as well?

Itsuki: Huh? What's this all about?

Yashiro: Once again, answer my question.

The player is given two options on how to respond:

  • Yeah.
  • I'm not really a performer...

If the player chooses option 1:

???

If the player chooses option 2:

Itsuki: I'm not really a performer or anything like that... But I am a member of Fortuna.

Yashiro: ... You're a rather strange one.

Itsuki: It's complicated... and none of your business, anyway.

Yashiro: Perhaps.

Tsubasa: C-Come on, Itsuki! Let's go! We really shouldn't be interrupting Mr. Tsurugi like this!

Yashiro: Hm...? Just a moment. You. Have we... met before?

Tsubasa: M-Me!? N-No... I... don't think we have... I mean, maybe seen on TV, but...

Yashiro: ... Never mind, then. You can go now.

Tsubasa: Y-Yes, sir!

>The two leave Uzume and have a conversation outside.

Tsubasa: Phew... That got me scared for a second... Itsuki, what was with all that hostility?

Itsuki: He's the one who started it. So... he's Yashiro Tsurugi.

Tsubasa: Because of that Mirage attack, we never saw him at that joint concert... But the show he's starring in right now, "Labyrinth of Love," is this season's number one hit. And he even sings the main theme! He's an amazing person! He's always at the top of the charts as a singer, and as an actor he's called the Prince of Ratings!

The player is given two options on how to respond:

  • Wish I could've seen him perform...
  • Doesn't make him less of a jerk...

If the player chooses option 1:

???

If the player chooses option 2:

Itsuki: Doesn't change the fact that he's kind of a jerk... But if he's really as good as you say, I'd want to see his performance.

Tsubasa: Heh heh heh... Tadaaa!

>Tsubasa gives Itsuki a Yashiro's Ticket.

Tsubasa: I got them from Ms. Maiko. I've got one for you too, Itsuki! She told me that as a Mirage Master... and a member of the entertainment business, I should try to experience all the good things.

Itsuki: That's pretty generous of her.

Tsubasa: Let's go watch it together! Oh, I just remembered! I need to head to the office now! I'll see you later, Itsuki!

>Tsubasa leaves. Maiko sends a text. The conversation is as follows:

Maiko: Hey, Tsubasa? I know the lesson should be over by now. I've been waiting for a while you know?

Maiko: sends a picture of a sighing man looking unimpressed

Maiko: If there's nothing going on, I need you to hurry back to the office! I've got something important to tell you.

Fortuna Office

>Itsuki walks into Fortuna Office. On one of the sofas is a young girl wearing a kimono and leather gloves. She gets up and greets Itsuko.

Girl in Kimono: Oh, hello!

Itsuki: Huh? Oh, hi.

Girl in Kimono: I heard about you from Ms. Maiko. You're Mr. Itsuki Aoi, right?

Itsuki: Yeah, that's me... And you would be...?

Mamori: I'm Mamori Minamoto.

The player is given two options on how to respond:

  • Do you work here too?
  • Are you Ms. Maiko's daughter?

If the player chooses option 1:

Itsuki: Do you work here too?

Mamori: Yes. That's correct.

Itsuki: So that means you've been here longer than me... Should I call you Ms. Minamoto, then?

Mamori: Oh, no! Just Mamori is fine... Um, I hope we can be friends!

Itsuki: Of course. If you don't mind, could you tell me more about yourself?

Mamori: Well... I'm on a show called "Microwavin' with Mamorin"... Have you ever seen it before, Itsuki?

Itsuki: Sorry, I don't really watch TV...

Mamori: Oh... really?

Itsuki: Yeah. But if you#re in the show, I'll try giving it a watch.

Mamori: Thank you. Please tell me what you think about it once you do. Um, and I also like ballads a lot... I'm an aspiring singer--or, well, I've already made my debut as a singer...

Itsuki: Wow, that's amazing!

Mamori: N-No, it's really nothing that great! I-I did release a C, but it hasn't... um... sold very well... Oh, but that doesn't mean I've given up! I'm still trying very hard so that I can get more job offers that involves singing!

Itsuki: I'll be cheering you on, then.

Mamori: Thank you very much!

>The conversation ends. Itsuki walks towards Maiko and Tsubasa, who are in the middle of a conversation.

Maiko: Oh, Ituski! Tsubasa's just getting ready for her next job. Wanna know what it is?

Tsubasa: ...

The player is given two options on how to respond:

  • What is it?
  • Are you nervous, Tsubasa?

If the player chooses option 1:

Itsuki: What is it?

Tsubasa: I'm supposed to model for this magazine, "Nan-No." *Sigh* I'm getting so nervous...

Maiko: "Feel" was a huge hit! I keep getting new offers from big publishing companies! How could I pass this up? You'll be fine, Tsubasa! Everyone starts somewhere! Just walk on in, a newbie full of confidence, and OWN it!

Tsubasa: *Sigh* That's easier said than done... It'd be fine if it was just singing, but being a fashion model...? There's no way I can do this...

The player is given two options on how to respond:

  • Singing and modeling are similar.
  • You'd look great in anything.

If the player chooses option 1:

???

If the player chooses option 2:

Itsuki: I think you'd look great in anything, so I don't think you have anything to be embarrassed about...

Tsubasa: Y-You think so...? Well, that's... nice to hear from you, Itsuki...

Itsuki: Yeah. No matter what you wear, you always look great.

Tsubasa: I--um--u-uh--s-s-stop! I don't know how to deal with you saying that!

Itsuki: Huh? Well, in any case, I think you'll be able to pull it off. Ms. Maiko wouldn't have singed you up for this if she didn't believe in you, right?

Tsubasa: Oh... I guess you're right... Okay. I'll do my best!

Itsuki: Good luck.

Tsubasa: Thanks, Itsuki. You helped me sort my thoughts out.

Maiko: Just as a side note, it's not just a shoot for Tsubasa. There are plenty of other models scheduled, too. As for the photographer... well, he's certainly skilled, so I'm sure the pictures will turn out great. Well, good luck on your first photo shoot.

Tsubasa: O-Okay!

>Tsubasa leaves.

Maiko: But who'd have thought it'd be him doing the photo shoot...? I guess it's a small world...

Itsuki: You know the photographer, Ms. Maiko?

Maiko: Mhm. Nobu Horinozawa... He's a pretty famous photographer in the industry. They call him a man of true talent. Knows the perfect angle and timing to bring out the true beauty of his subjects... Or at least, that's what they say. If you ask me, it's all thanks to the model.

Itsuki: The model...?

Maiko: That's right. Before all this, I used to be a fashion model, you know.

Itsuki: Wh-What? Really?

Maiko: Mhm. I worked with Horinozawa quite a bit back then, but he was pretty mediocre... mm, a bit above average. Of course, he could have improved since then. So he may well be the top-class photographer they say he is now.

Itsuki: Top-class... But if he's such a good photographer, why did you look so worried earlier?

Maiko: ... Worried? Itsuki, don't be ridiculous! I've got nothing to worry about.

Itsuki: Oh, I almost forgot...

Maiko: Hm? What's wrong?

The player is given two options on how to respond:

  • There was an article...
  • It's nothing.

If the player chooses option 1:

???

If the player chooses option 2:

Itsuki: Oh, it's nothing.

Maiko: Come on, Itsuki. You can't just drop me a hint like that and stop. Or do you like keeping secrets from me?

Itsuki: Oh, it's not a secret. I just noticed this article while I was flipping through a magazine.

Maiko: What kind of article?

Itsuki: Apparently a lot of models have been going missing. Something about this seems suspicious.

Maiko: Hm. You might be right... There's a chance Mirages are involved in this. I'll use some of my connections and look into it.

Itsuki: Thanks.

Maiko: After this, though, I'm a little more worried about Tsubasa. Could you head to where she's working and play bodyguard? She'll be at the Daiba TV main building, the one with Daitama Observatory. Her shoot should be in the studio nearby.

Itsuki: Got it.

Maiko: I'm counting on you to look after Tsubasa.

>Game transitions to gameplay. As Itsuki is about to leave the office, he receives a text from Touma. The conversation is as follows:

Touma: yo isuki you got a sec

Itsuki: What's up?

Touma: just saw tsubasa earlier

Touma: she looked really distracted. i saw her run into a telephone pole. and then, uh. she frantically apologised to it

Itsuki: ... It's worse than I thought.

Touma: heard tsubasa got a gig as a model? with some photo shoot over in daitama

Touma: kinda worried about her. you oughta go keep an eye on her

Itsuki: That's the plan. Ms. Maiko already told me to head that way.

Touma: awesome. make sure you help tsubasa if she needs it

Itsuki: Understood.

Daitama Observatory

>Itsuki enters Daitama Observatory and bumps into Hatanaka, the man he rescued in Shibuya 106.

Hatanaka: Oh? Wait a minute... You were at the 106, weren't you...?

Itsuki: Oh-- Mr. Hatanaka?

Hatanaka: Ah, I knew it! You're that boy who helped me out of that nasty jam earlier... And your name again was...

Itsuki: Itsuki Aoi.

Hatanaka: Ah, Itsuki. So... do you remember exactly what happened at the 106? I've been trying and trying to recall, but all my memories feel like this dreadful haze... I feel like I was lost in some bizarre place, but... somehow, it feels like it was all just a dream as well... Truth be told, I don't even remember precisely how we met. Every time I try to recall, my thoughts feel so jumbled. Why can't I remember anything...?

Itsuki: Um, well...

Touma: Oh, Itsuki! There you are.

>Touma walks up to the two.

Touma: Work finished a little early, so I dropped by the studio where Tsubasa's doing her photo shoot... Whoa, Mr. Hatanaka. Always a pleasure, sir!

Hatanaka: Oh...! Now you--you were at the 106 as well, weren't you?

Touma: ... Sorry, Mr. Hatanaka, but we're running a little late. Itsuki and I gotta run.

Itsuki: It was nice meeting you again, Mr. Hatanaka.

Hataaka: A-Aha. Until next time, then...

>Itsuki and Touma walk away and start talking in private.

Itsuki: It sounded like Mr. Hatanaka was really curious about the Idolapshere.

Touma: Ah, crap. Really...? Hope he doesn't stick his nose too far into this. It'd be dangerous if he got mixed up with Mirages.

Itsuki: Yeah.

Touma: Oh, right, Tsubasa's photo shoot. I've already been by the studio she was at, but... Turns out there was some kind of trouble. I guess the shoot got canceled.

Itsuki: Trouble... Was it a Mirage?

Touma: Nah, didn't look like it. All the models were coming out safe and sound, so I think we're good on that front. But I did see the photographer--that Mr. Horinozawa. He looked really mad about something. Hope Tsubasa's- Hey! Well, speak of the devil. Check it out--that's Mr. Horinozawa over there.

>The camera pans to a man with short black hair and amber eyes. He is wearing a laptop bag.

'Man with Buzz Cut: I'll see you later, then.

>The man walks away from the person he was conversing with.

Itsuki: So he's the photographer...

Touma: Wait, back up a sec. Why'd you jump straight to Mirages?

Itsuki: You remember the article in that magazine at the convenience store? About those models that went missing?

Touma: Oh, yeah. That stuff.

Itsuki: We don't know for sure if Mirages are behind it, but... it's just been bothering me. So I talked to Ms. Maiko about it, and she sent me over here to make sure Tsubasa would be okay. I guess I wasn't really needed here after all, though.

Touma: Welp. There goes my plans for the day, anyway. I think I'll take a walk before I head back. See you around, man!

>Touma leaves. Game transitions to gameplay. As Itsuki is about to leave Daitama, Maiko sends him a text. The conversation is as follows:

Maiko: So how was Tsubasa's photo shoot?

Itsuki: It was already over when I got there.

Itsuki: Apparently there was some kind of problem. Tsubasa should be back at the office safely now.

Maiko: That's a relief to hear...

Maiko: I actually turned up some info on the models who disappeared... Apparently they all had photo shoots with Horinozawa before they vanished.

Maiko: It's hard to think this is just coincidence.

Itsuki: Do you think Tsubasa could be the next target?

Maiko: That's what I'm worried about. I want you to keep a close watch on her for the time being.

Itsuki: I'll head back to the office, then. Tsubasa might be back by now.

Maiko: Thanks. I'll try digging up some more info on Horinozawa in the meantime.

Itsuki: (... Guess I should head back.)

Fortuna Office 2

>Itsuki travels back to Fortuna Office. Tsubasa is sitting on the sofa.

Itsuki: Tsubasa?

Tsubasa: *Sigh*

Itsuki: What's the matter?

Tsubasa: Well, it's just... today's photo shoot didn't go so well... I made the photographer mad, and he just left.

Itsuki: Everyone makes mistakes. What's important is that you learn from them.

Tsubasa: Yeah.

Itsuki: If there's something you want to talk about, I'm here. Sometimes it can help you put things in perspective.

Tsubasa: Thanks, Itsuki.

Itsuki: And if it'd help to complain a little, I'll listen.

Tsubasa: Oh, so I can only complain a LITTLE, huh?

Itsuki: Yep. A tiny bit.

Tsubasa: Okay... I messed up this time, so the only thing I can do now is make sure I don't make the same mistake again. I'm an idol now. There's a lot I'm going to have to deal with. But if I can overcome all of it... that's when I'll know I've made it. They said they'll try the photo shoot on another day, so when that day comes, I'll try even harder!

Itsuki: On... another day...

Tsubasa: What's wrong, Itsuki?

Itsuki: Well, Horinozawa, that photographer who was running your photo shoot... There's some strange rumors about him.

Tsubasa: Strange rumors?

Itsuki: Yeah. I heard this from Ms. Maiko, but it seems like quite a few of his models have gone missing lately.

Tsubasa: You mean... a Mirage...?

>Mamori suddenly comes running into the office. She is frantic.

Mamori: I-It's an emergency!

Tsubasa: What's wrong?

Mamori: I-It's Shibuya... There's something strange happening...!

Itsuki: What's going on in Shibuya?

Mamori: Th-The people in Shibuya aren't acting normal!

Itsuki: What do you mean, not normal?

Mamori: I don't know why, but everybody looks extremely tired... a-and, um, I... u-um...!

Itsuki: Calm down, Mamori. Take your time.

Mamori: It's still mid-afternoon... but everything suddenly became dark and hazy... I-I got scared, and I rushed all the way back here...

Itsuki: I'm glad you're okay, Mamori. I don't know exactly what's going on, but for the moment, we should head to Shibuya.

Tsubasa: Y-Yeah...!

Itsuki: Mamori, it cold be dangerous, so you'd better stay here.

Mamori: O-Okay. Please be careful, you two...!

Shibuya 2

>The two travel to Shibuya. The atmosphere and surroundings are incredibly similar to the time where the SIV-LIVE concert was attacked: a circle in the sky, civilians walking around without enthusiasm, and circles spawning all over roads and buildings. A man using a camera is seen taking photos of the general people. He looks demonic. Maiko suddenly appears.

Maiko: Nobu Horinozawa!

Horinozawa: Ah, Maiko! You've finally decided to return as my muse, then?

Maiko: I didn't want to believe it... So you really are the one... Return the people you've taken! Now!

Horinozawa: Hah! No, I don't need to bother with those amateurs. I only take pictures of what truly deserves to be immortalized... You! Let me help you remember that job of everyone's eyes on you... and remember how you illuminated the world!

>He takes a photo of Maiko. She immediately disappears.

Maiko: *Gasp*!

>Itsuki and Tsubasa run up to Horinozawa.

Tsubasa: Ms. Maiko!?

Itsuki: You... Where did you send Ms. Maiko!?

>Horinozawa teleports a few paces away.

Itsuki: Stop!

>Horinozawa continues to teleport until he reaches the newest entrance to the Idolapshere. Once there, he walks through it. Tsubasa then sends Itsuki a text. The conversation is as follows:

Tsubasa: everyone! Mr. Horinozawa's done something to make Ms. Maiko vanish! we need to go after him!

Tsubasa: Shibuya looks the same as that SIV-Live incident. it has to be Mr. Horinozawa who's causing this.

Tsubsasa: Mr. Horinozawa went towards Central City Street. we gotta be careful!

>The party walk towards the new Idolasphere entrance. Tsubasa speaks up.

Tsubasa: Mr. Horinozawa must have gone through here... Itsuki, what should we do...?

Itsuki: Let's head in. We have to save Ms. Maiko!

Illusory Shibuya

The party enters the new Idolasphere. The most striking feature about the dungeon is that there are pictures of female models posted all over the walls.

Tharja: Heh heh... Heh heh heh... I could get used to this kind of Idolasphere.

Kiria: Save the jokes. We need to find Maiko.

>Game transitions to gamepaly. As the party walk a few steps forward, Itsuki comments on the pictures.

Itsuki: (These photos... Are these the models that have gone missing...? So they were taken by the photographer, just like Ms. Maiko was earlier... I'm worried about these people, too. I have to find them, and quickly.)

>Game transitions to gameplay. When Itsuki reaches the red door on the Northern side of the second block, he stops in front of it and contemplates.

Itsuki: (I sense a dangerous presence beyond this door... What should I do?)

The player is given two options on how to respond:

  • Proceed
  • Do not proceed

If the player chooses "proceed":

>Itsuki and co. walk through the door and express shock at what they see.

Itsuki: That's...!

>Female models are seen suspended in midair, surrounded and ensnared by purple triangles.

Tsubasa: Ah... I remember those people! They were at the photo shoot!

Itsuki: We have to save them!

Mirage: Give me... Perfomaaaaa...!

>A camera-shaped Mirage appears.

Chrom: We'll have to take this thing down first if we want to save them.

Itsuki: Yeah. Let's do this, Chrom!

>Battle begins. Once the miniboss is beaten, the female idols are freed. They are on the floor, exhausted.

Pinup Idol: Nngh... Where am I...?

Tsubasa: Looks like they're all back to normal. What a relief...

>The rescued models are escorted back to safety.

Itsuki: All right, that's all the models that had been kidnapped. We have to hurry and find Ms. Maiko and the photographer.

>Game transitions to gameplay. Itsuki can speak to the three party members. The conversations are as follows:

Touma: If things had been even a little different, Tsubasa might have gotten taken too, right? Maybe it's a good the photo shoot stopped!

Tsubasa: Let's keep this up and rescue Ms. Maiko!

Kiria: It seems like he was taking the girls' Perfoma through their pictures.

>Game transitions to gameplay. Once the team leave the room where they fought the boss, Tsubasa notices a picture and looks shocked.

Tsubasa: Look!

>The whole party looks at the picture in question as well as a few others; they're all photos of Maiko.

Touma: H-Hey... Is this...

Itsuki: Let's go. I'm worried about Ms. Maiko.

>The party nod in agreement. Game transitions to gameplay. Gameplay remains uninterrupted until the party reaches the red door on the Northern side of the third block.

Itsuki: (I sense a dangerous presence beyond this door... What should I do?

The player is given two options on how to respond:

  • Proceed
  • Do not proceed

If the player chooses "proceed":

>The party opens the door and proceeds to walk up the flight of stairs. Once they get to the top, they see Maiko sitting on a couch, shackled by black and purple triangles. Horinozawa is taking photos of her.

Itsuki: Stop! What are you doing!?

Horinozawa: Isn't it obvious? It's a photo shoot... Just as I thought. You, Maiko... You alone are worthy of my art... Heh... ahaha...! Haaahahaha!

Itsuki: This photo shoot's over... Now, let go of Ms. Maiko!

Horzinozawa: Hm...? You... Tsubasa Oribe! I get it now... You're from Maiko's production office... You're here to steal away my muse!

>Horinozawa readies his camera and is about to take a shot of the party. The friendly Mirages appear and shield the party.

Chrom: Agh-!

>A photo is taken; the Mirages disappear.

Itsuki: ... Chrom!? Chrom! What's wrong!?

Tsubasa: Caeda? Caeda!? No... she's not responding...

Itsuki: We have to fall back! We can't fight without our Carnage Forms!

Tsubasa: Y-Yeah!

Horinozawa: You dare drop a job offer after just one little mistake? Models these days! Do you want everything served up on a silver platter!? I'm talking to you... Tsubasa Oribe!

Tsubasa: Y-Yes, sir!?

Horinozawa: You know, when I heard you were from Maiko's agency, I had such high hopes for you. I thought if ANYONE truly understood what it takes to be a mode, unlike the amateurs, it would be someone from Maiko's office!

Tsubasa: ...

Horinozawa: But look at you! You're no different from those frauds in the end! You have no respect or desire for art... I don't need these talentless idols! Has Maiko gone blind!?

Tsubasa: You're right... I'm just an amateur... and maybe I can't get everything right. I understand you're angry... but...! It's my fault alone! Not Ms. Maiko's!

Horinozawa: What?

Tsubasa: Ms. Maiko isn't blind...! And I'm poing to groove it to you! ...

>Tsubasa blushes at her speech mistake.

Tsubasa: I-I mean... I'll show you what I can really do!

Horinozawa: Ugh! Damn amateurs... You talk the talk, but if you want to impress me, you'll have to walk the walk!

>Horinozawa takes a photo of the party, they all disappear.

Horinozawa: Ugh. Now THAT was a waste of my time. Ahaha... I told you before. You're the only one who can be my muse, Maiko!

Shibuya 3

>The scene changes to outside the Idolasphere. The party is seen coming out of the portal.

Tsubasa: Itsuki! We're...

Itsuki: I guess that means we aren't ready... Wait, where's Chrom!?

Chrom's Voice: ... Don't worry, we're all right. It looks like that man's camera has the power to seal away a Mirage's power temporarily.

Kiria: ... That's going to be an issue.

>A crowd suddenly run past the group. A slight cheer can be heard.

Tsubasa: Itsuki, look!

Itsuki: What is it!?

Tsubasa: Look at all the people! They're all heading that way... I wonder what's going on? Yashiro Tsurugi's live concert...? Oh, right. I totally forgot it was today, after all that other stuff.

Itsuki: Wait... that's weird. The city's under the effect of the Mirages, but this place seems so lively. Why is that?

Kiria: You'll know once you see it.

Itsuki: Huh...? But we shouldn't be going to a see a concert at a time like this...

Kiria: It's because it's a "time like this" that we should. Remember? You're Mirage Masters now. There's definitely something you can learn from a first-class artist.

Tsubasa: I-I see!

Kiria: You have your tickets, right? Come on.

>The party enter the building where Yashiro's performance is being played. An animated scene then starts, yashiro is singing "BLACK RAIN". When the performance finishes, the four are seen in the middle of the crowd.

Tsubasa: Wow... Yashiro Tsurugi's concert was amazing...

Kiria: He's the real deal. You could say he's one of the few true artists in the field. ... Take a look around.

Woman's Voice: Yashirooooo!

Man's Voice: Ah... I feel like my weathered soul has been healed... The world's never looked so bright...!

>Yashiro is seen addressing his fans.

Itsuki: ... Wow. Shibuya's still dark, but all his fans seem fine...

>Yashiro notices the group. He scowls and crosses his hands.

Yashiro: ...

>Yashiro leaves.

Kiria: ... ... A truly incredible performance can enthrall an audience, no matter the situation. This is the same thing Horinozawa was talking about. You understand, Tsubasa?

Tsubasa: Huh...? Oh.

Kiria: Performing live or posing as a model... They're different, but they both demand the same thing: captivating your audience.

Tsubasa: Captivating my audience through performing... and photos...?

Kiria: What you need is an idea of how you want to present yourself. A clear vision of what you want to do.

Tsubasa: Vision...?

Itsuki: I think she means... you need to know what you want your pictures--your work--to express.

Tsubasa: What I want to express... What kind of pictures I want...

>The party leave the concert. Tiki sends a text to Itsuki. The conversation is as follows:

Tiki: Um, big brother? Are you guys back in the real Shibuya now? Could you come back to the office?

Tiki: There's someone here in the Fortuna Office... I wonder who it is...? I don't think I've ever met this person before.

Tiki: sends a picture of a worried Tiki, holding a microphone and stand

Fortuna Office 2

>When the party walk into the office, Mamori and Hatanaka are seen having a conversation. Mamori notices Itsuki.

Mamori: Oh, Itsuki.

Hatanaka: Hm? Oh, you're... Ah, I see. You were a member of Fortuna Entertainment.

Itsuki: Uh... I'd say I'm still in training. What brings you to the office, Mr. Hatanaka?

Hatanaka: Your president called me over to discuss something. She said she anted to discuss a new marketing strategy for... let's see... Tsubasa Oribe, was it?

Tsubasa: F-For me?

Hatanaka: Yep, that's right. So, any idea when Ms. Shimazaki will be back in the office?

Kiria: ... She's busy at the momemt. She might not be back for a while.

Hatanaka: Really? I opened up my schedule just for this... Well, that's a downer. I guess another of her meetings must be dragging on long or something.

Kiria: She's in a meeting with Nobu Horinozawa...

Hatanaka: Ah, a rendezvous with Mr. Horinozawa. Wow... I didn't expect the two of them to still be in contact. I was convinced that after she retired from her career, their relationship was over too. I mean, considering everything...

Itsuki: What do you mean?

Hatanaka: The two of them used to be a pretty famous duo in the modeling world.

Tsubasa: Really?

Hatanaka: Oh, well... I guess you might be too young to know about it. Wow, I feel a lot older all of a sudden... So... that means you've never heard of "My Complex" then?

Tsubasa: "My Complex"?

Hatanaka: It's a photo book featuring Ms. Shimazaki. It was released right after she started branching out from modeling work into other parts of the entertainment business. Her smile, her pose... all of it was filled with this charm, this coquettish ennui! She enthralled the men of Japan... Why, that photo book ended up having a huge impact on the fashion industry! At the time, anyway. ... And her photographer was none other than Mr. Horinozawa. I'll skip the gory details... They were a great duo. But there was rumors that their relationship was... more than professional. That caused some problems for both of them, and their reputation in the industry suffered from it.

Itsuki: I had no idea...

Hatanaka: Well, if Ms. Shimazaki isn't here, there's not much I can do. I'd better get running to my next appointment. I'll see you around.

>Hatanaka leaves.

Kiria: So Horinozawa and Maiko knew each other... I didn't know about this either. Why don;t we try looking for some photos of Maiko from when she was a model?

Itsuki: Her photos?

Kiria: The only person Nobu Horinozawa considers worthy of his photography is Maiko. So if we take a look at Maiko's old photos, maybe we'll find some kind of clue.

Itsuki: You're right. Something Ms. Maiko has, but Tsubasa doesn't... There must be some kind of hint in those pictures.

Kiria: Exactly. Let's split up and look for that photo book Hatanaka mentioned.

>Game transitions to gameplay. The book can be found by interacting with the shelf right of Maiko's desk.

Itsuki: "My Complex"... This must be the photo book Mr. Hatanaka was talking about...

>Itsuki opens the book.

Tsubasa: W-Wow... My heart is pounding just by looking at this...

Kiria: This is... a real professional's work. Both model and photographer are expressing themselves, and they won't settle for less.

Tsubasa: ...

Itsuki: Are you getting any inspiration?

Tsubasa: I did notice something. In every single one of these photos, Ms. Maiko looks so... relaxed. Touma, can I take a closer look at "My Complex"?

Touma: Huh...? Wh- Oh! Oh, yeah. Sure.

Kiria: ... What?

Touma: Hey, come on! I can't help it! No guy could resist this! Especially--look, right there! It's like I'm getting a glimpse into her private life! Like the kinda intimate look she'd only show her boyfriend! Oh, man... This is the weirdest thing. I understand that it's Ms. Maiko on these pages, but I- I mean, I... I'm guessing a little too excited, huh.

Kiria: ... Yeah.

Tsubasa: ... Ahaha... ha...

Touma: Yeah, okay, I know what that laugh means...

Tsubasa: A-Anyway, I think that means Ms. Maiko and Mr. Horinozawa were totally in sync about what they wanted to express. That's why Ms. Maiko trusted him so completely... and how he took pictures what were so breathtaking. And me... I was just so embarrassed about the whole thing. I just did what I was told, hoping it'd be over quicker. No wonder he was angry with me... What I did was disrespectful to the staff at the shoot, and everyone who sees my photos. That's what I learned from "My Complex"... I'm not going to run away from having my picture taken anymore. I have to face my camera... and my audience, head on!

Itsuki: I see... Yeah, I think that's more like you, Tsubasa.

Tsubasa: So...Itsuki, I have a little favor to ask. I have some poses I was kind of thinking about... and I want a guy's opinion.

Itsuki: Sure. As long as you're okay with my input.

Some time passes...

Itsuki: I don't think it's about execution or technique. What's important is how you express your soul.

Tsubasa: Got it, Itsuki!

Itsuki: Maybe a little more... if you had a hint of nervousness and shyness in your facial expression...?

Tsubasa: L-Like this?

Itsuki: Perfect. That's great. But I think you can do better. Try a little more cheerfulness and anticipation in your pose...

Tsubasa: Okay, I'll try it!

Itsuki: A little more cuteness... but still passionate...!

Tsubasa: Yeah... I think this is it!

>Tsubasa unlocks a new Perfoma: As You See Me.

Tsubasa: Ah... A Perfoma...

Itsuki: You did it, Tsubasa.

Kiria: Well done. I think with that, you can finally prove yourself to Horinozawa.

>Conversation ends. Tiki sends a text.

Tiki: You did it, Tsubasa! With that Perfoma, I'm sure you can learn a whole new technique!

>Tsubasa and Caeda will have a conversation once Tsubasa learns the Radiant Unity "Feel My Soul".

Tsubasa: I'm sure I can convince Mr. Horinozawa with this... Right?

Caeda: Yes, I believe you can. You did your utmost to each this point, Tsubasa. I know you can succeed.

Tsubasa: Yeah! I'm... I'm going to do it! With this pose that Itsuki and I came up with, I'm going to save Ms. Maiko!

Caeda: That's the spirit, Tsubasa!

>After the conversation, Touma sends a text. The conversation is as follows:

Touma: we got that unity, no problem! we oughta get back to illusory shibuya before ms. maiko gets tired of waiting for us

Touma: sends a picture of a masked man with the words "Here I Go!" written on it

>The party go back to where Maiko and Horinozawa are.

Horinozawa: So, you come crawling back. I'm warning you, I'm not a man to forgive half-assed work! Disappoint me, and you're out!

Tsubasa: Yes... I understand! Tsubasa Oribe's taking the stage!

>Tsubasa quick-changes her look, wearing a new attire. Her party members all give her a thumbs up.

Editor's note: In the Japanese game, she changed into a two-piece swimsuit. In the localised game, her look is now a lot more casual and relaxed (flat cap being worn incorrectly is the biggest example). Nothing raunchy is shown. But despite that, the camera work isn't changed; it still zooms in and pans over her hips and chest. Random piece of trivia for you!

Tsubasa: Both Itsuki and I worked to come up with this pose... It's going to work! This... is the best performance I can give!

>Tsubasa strikes several poses. Horinozawa recoils, taken aback by Tsubasa's poses.

Horinozawa: Th-This is... M-Marvelous...! I can see it... She's going on a first date with the boy of her dreams, and she wants to go all out for him... Street chic, full of energy and joy... And her smile, with that a hint of bashfulness! It's the perfect harmony! Seductive, without being direct or explicit! That perfect balance, that genuine feel of teen romance! This is... Tsubasa Oribe!

Tsubasa: That's right! I may not know what makes the best picture... but I'm going to do this my way!

Horinozawa: Yes! This! This this this this! This is what I wanted! This is exactly the photo I wanted to take! Yes! Yes! These are the greatest shots EVERRR!

>A powerful-looking Mirage appears behind Horinozawa. He looks bored, with one hand supporting the side of his head.

Gangrel: Bwa ha ha ha! And what the hell was that, wench? Look at that gaudy trash you have on! Aren't you ashamed of yourself?

Tsubasa: No! I'm not embarrassed! Because... I want to show everyone the best me I possibly can!

Horinozawa: She's right... And you don't have a single ounce of artistic taste in you. So be quiet!

Gangrel: Pardon me while I vomit! Is that all it takes to win you over, Horinozawa? Some vapid, doe-eyed strumpet? Is that all you wanted!?

Horinozawa: Hm... True, her technique is still lacking... But her poses have heart! She has spirit! And that's all that matters in the beginning!

Gangrel: Well, I'm heartbroken. Truly. Is that all you're good for? You're a pathetic excuse for a man!

Horinozawa: And YOU are a philistine! You have no appreciation for the art of photography! I won't let an artless creature like you hide inside me... anymore! Get the hell out of me!

>Horinozawa attempts to sever the connection Gangrel and he share. A Perfoma is seen between the two.

Chrom: Itsuki! This might be our chance! I think we can separate that Mirage from the photographer!

Itsuki: Yeah... I'll give it a shot!

>Itsuki runs up and slices the Perfoma. Gangrel learns back, in shock.

Gangrel: You... MAGGOTS! Rrrgh... Get out of my way... you TRASH!

>Battle begins.

VS. Gangrel

When Gangrel first acts:

Gangrel: Ugh, pathetic... All of you...

Gangrel acts.

Gangrel: Hurry it up! If you can't take a hit, you're WORTHLESS!

Editor's note: When defeated, Gangrel does utter words before he disappears, but since the dialogue hasn't got English subtitles, I have no idea what he is saying.

After the battle

Itsuki: Ms. Maiko!

>Maiko is freed and able to move and talk.

Maiko: Nnh... everyone...? ... Thank you. I guess you all saved me, huh?

Tsubasa: Actually, Ms. Maiko, I think you're the one that saved me. If it wasn't for your photo book, I don't know if I could gotten through this... After I saw your photos, I realised something very important.

Maiko: Photo book...? ... Are you talking about "My Complex"?

Tsubasa: Yes! Thanks to that, I found an answer of my own!

Maiko: Hee hee... Is that so? Well, I'm glad it came in handy for you, Tsubasa.

Horinozawa: Maiko...

>Horinozawa walks up to Maiko. He now looks his normal, human self.

Maiko: Nobu...

Horinozawa: And Oribe.

Tsubasa: Y-Yes!?

Horinozawa: I know now... there was something wrong with me. It was you that helped open my eyes to what I had been doing. I want to thank you... There was a part of me that felt like all idols were worthless. But you healed my clouded judgement! There's still people who know what it means to model! I have my art back... Let's take wonderful pictures together!

Tsubasa: Y-Yes, sir! I- Um... It'll be ply measure!

>The group laugh at Tsubasa's speech mistake. The scene then changes to an area nearby Shibuya Crossing, where Tsubasa, Maiko, and a blonde-haired woman are seen together, facing a crowd. Itsuki, Touma, Kiria, and Horinozawa are in front.

Tsubasa: Thank you all for coming!

Horinozawa: That's great, Oribe.

>Horinozawa takes a various amount of photos of the three females. Afterwards, Tsubasa speaks to Itsuki.

Tsubasa: S-So what did you think, Itsuki? Did I do okay in the shoot?

The player is given two options on how to respond:

  • I felt like I saw the real you.
  • I thought I might be falling for you.

If the player chooses the first option:

???

If the player chooses the second option:

Itsuki: I thought I might be falling for you! I can understand now why Touma was so into that photo book.

Tsubasa: Huh? U-Um... F-F-Falling... for me...? Wh-What's gotten into you all of a sudden?

Itsuki: I think I understand what Kiria meant when she talked about a performance that can captivate a viewer. I'm sure those pictures you just took will capture the hearts of your fans, Tsubasa.

Tsubasa: ... Oh...

Itsuki: What's wrong?

Tsubasa: Nothing... Anyway... it was thanks to you that I managed to get this far, Itsuki. So... Thank you.

>Tsubasa leaves, and the blonde-haired girl appears and speaks to Itsuki.

Blonde Girl: Phew. I just got back from the country, and they've already got a job lined up for me... Ah, it's tough being in high demand. ...? What's the problem? Something on my face?

Itsuki: Oh, uh- No...

Blonde Girl: ... Whatever. Bye. I have to go pack up for the day.

>The blonde-haired girl leaves.

Itsuki: That girl really stands out...

>The scene changes to Fortuna Office.

Kiria: I'm glad the photo shoot was a success. Looks like all your hand work paid off, Tsubasa.

Tsubasa: O-O-Ohmygosh! Wh-What do I do, Itsuki!? Kiria's complimenting me!

Kiria: Then again, maybe some things aren't going to change...

Tsubasa: Huh?

Kiria: I'm looking forward to seeing you improve even more.

Tsubasa: Eeeeek! Y-Y-Yes, ma'am! Mank you thery vuch!

Itsuki: I never would have guessed from how you act, Kiria, but you really do care a lot about other people.

Kiria: I... have no idea what you're talking about. But... this attack on Shibuya was a lot more drastic than the attack on the 106. And the enemies are slowly getting stronger, too. This could be bad.

Maiko: I know what you mean, Kiria... If we can't find a way to fight back, the attacks might get to be more than we can handle. Our best shot is to take down the root of all this... the enemy Mirage that's commanding all of them. The problem is, how exactly are we going to find this leader...?

Itsuki: First of all... Do we even know what kind of a person we're up against?

Maiko: Well, not quite, Itsuki. The leader's bound to be a Mirage, not a human.

Itsuki: Right, but what I meant is if this Mirage leader is possessing someone, what kind of person would it possess?

Maiko: Well... if we're talking about the boss of all our enemies, it'd probably possess a powerful figure in the industry... *Gasp*! That's it... All the powerful Mirages that were involved in the incidents have been directly possessing humans! I was imagining someone more like Tiki... but if they're actively plotting against us, they'd need a body in our world! So the enemy leader would possess someone influential enough in entertainment that they could afford Nobu's time... No... that doesn't get us very far. There'd still be way too many possibilities.

Itsuki: I don't think we'll have to search every single one of them.

Tsubasa: What do you mean?

The player is given two options on how to respond:

  • His personality would be different.
  • We know the general time period.

If the player chooses option 1:

???

If the player chooses option 2:

Itsuki: We know the general time period of when it happened. Mr. Horinozawa's personality changed after being possessed by a Mirage. We just need to figure out when that happened.

Maiko: That's true... we could definitely narrow down our candidates that way! Nice thinking, Itsuki! All right. Time to put all my connections to good use! Oh, but first--she should be here any minute now...

Itsuki: She?

>The camera pans behind the group; the blonde girl from before is in the office.

Blonde Girl: Oh, did I keep you waiting? Well, I'm back now. A true Hollywood-style homecoming! Sounded like things were getting hectic over here, so I took care of my work in the countryside and hurried back.

Maiko: Welcome back, Ellie. This is Eleonora Yumizuru. She's a Mirage Master like you all, and also a young actress with Fortuna Entertainment.

Itsuki: You're that girl from the photo shoot...

Eleonora: That's right. I'm a rising star right now, but I'll be at the top of Hollywood soon enough. Wait, you were at that shoot too...? I didn't know you were with Fortuna.

Itsuki: I'm a new Mirage Master here. My name's Itsuki Aoi. It's nice to meet you.

Eleonora: A new Master, huh. And what exactly are you aiming to be?

Itsuki: I haven't really figured that one out yet. I don't really know if I'm good any anything...

Eleonora: Geez. So you really are just a total newbie here. Well, if you ever need anything, just come to me for help. Experienced veterans have to show the newbies how everything works. That's how it works in Hollywood!

Itsuki: ... Yeah. Hollywood and everywhere else... So, Eleonora...

Eleonora: Just Ellie's fine. Everyone calls me that. It sounds way more Hollywood.

Itsuki: Sounds... Hollywood?

Eleonora: Exactly. So, what's up?

Itsuki: Are you... biracial, Ellie?

Eleonora: You got it. My mom's side is from Europe.

Itsuki: I see...

Eleonora: What? It's not like that's a big deal.

The player is given two options on how to respond:

  • Well, you're just so pretty.
  • Yeah, you're right.

If the player chooses option 1:

Itsuki: Well, you're just so pretty. I was just thinking you probably look great on-screen when you're in movies or TV shows.

Eleonora: Wh- G-Geez, and out comes the sweet talk! I can see right through your little act, you know!

Itsuki: Wh-What? No, that's not my intention at all. So, Ellie, what kind of shows have you been in?

Eleonora: What? Are you serious? Are you telling me you've never seen "Dandelion in Love"!? It's getting really big these days!

Itsuki: Sorry, I've never heard of it... but it must be an amazing show.

Eleonora: O-Of course it is! And it's exactly the breakout hit I need to become a huge star someday!

Itsuki: Okay...

Eleonora: What's your deal...? Fine. You just watch. One day, you won't be able to turn on the TV without seeing my face!

Touma: Yeah, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Eleonora: And YOU can cut it out with that patronizing attitude! I'm not a fan!

Touma: I'm not trying to be patronizing... but that show of yours isn't getting great ratings. And barely anyone's talking about it.

Eleonora: I-It's just getting started! It's foreshadowing for the big dramatic turnaround, like in all success story movies! You just don't get it! And are you new here, too?

Tsubasa: Mhm! My name is Tsubasa Oribe. It's my pleasure to be working with you, Ms. Eleonora.

Eleonora: Tsubasa, huh? You can just call me Ellie, too. That sounds more movie-star-ish.

>Maiko's phone begins to ring.

Eleonora: And that must be a new offer for me!

Maiko: Yes..? Yes... I'll let her know. Thank you very much.

Eleonora: So, what's the new gig?

Maiko: Uh, well, it was a job offer... for Mamori...

Eleonora: ...

Maiko: Um... well... Never give up, Ellie! Tomorrow is another day!

Eleonora: O-Oh... that's fine! I mean, I just came back from a job anyways! Gotta get some rest first!

Touma: Haha... guess our office is going to get a lot louder again...

Chapter 2: Head over Heels for Her.

End!

Intermission

>Maiko sends a text. The conversation is as follows:

Maiko: You've been doing great these days Itsuki! Well, here's mission number two!

Maiko: And this time the coach will be...! Ooh, curious? Do you want to know?

Maiko: But... I'm afraid it's a secret. <3 It's at the same place as last time: Uzume Lesson Studio!

Maiko: By the way, have you heard about Anzu? The apparel store in Harajuku?

Maiko: Apparently they have outfits that were used in TV shows and movies too. If you have time, you should take a look.

Maiko: The lesson can start anytime, so just come by whenever you feel you're ready.

Maiko: sends a picture of a rabbit holding a martini glass with the words "Fight on!" written on it

To be added...
