Velouria: Shigure, could you do me a favor?

Shigure: A favor?

Velouria: I heard you were good at painting, so I hoped you could paint something for me.

Shigure: Sure. Anything for a comrade-in-arms. What would you like me to paint?

Velouria: Well...it would be easier if I showed you. Please come with me.

Shigure: Hm? O-OK.

(fade to black)

Velouria: Here.

Shigure: Your tent?

Velouria: Yes. Please, come inside.

Shigure: If you insist... Th-there's garbage everywhere! What is all this?

Velouria: These are my treasures. I've been collecting them.

Shigure: Your t-treasures? I'm so sorry!

Velouria: Why are you apologizing?

Shigure: You called these things treasures... They must be very precious to you. And I called them garbage... I'm so sorry.

Velouria: I cannot hear your mumbling. Now, please, whatever it is, do not worry. I would like you to paint my tent, and all the treasures within it, exactly as they are. Most of them are on the verge of decay. Soon I will have to throw them out. So I would like a picture to immortalize them.

Shigure: (This is what she calls on the VERGE of decay?)

Velouria: Will you do this for me?

Shigure: ...Yes. I've never painted anything like this before. It will be an interesting challenge.

Velouria: Thank you, Shigure!

Shigure: Of course. Hm...now, how shall I do this...

B Support

Shigure: Velouria! I finished the painting you requested.

Velouria: Oh! Very good. I cannot wait to see it.

Shigure: All right. I hope you like it... Ta-da!

Velouria: Thank y— A-ah... Um...

Shigure: Do you not like it?

Velouria: This is...completely wrong... The tree branches should be dead. And the leaves lack that nice, rotten look. And you have painted a full deer, rather than just half of one. It even looks freshly dead! What is this? A joke? Do you joke at me, human paint man?

Shigure: No! I tried to represent how the tent looks from your point of view.

Velouria: From my point of view? My eyeballs work as well as yours. Perhaps better. And they do not see this...abomination.

Shigure: I know, I know! That's not what I meant. I meant...I tried to make your things look as beautiful to others as they look to you.

Velouria: Ah...I see. I suppose I have heard of art styles like that. I apologize. Perhaps I should not have reacted so hastily. You must have put much time and effort into making this for me... I feel I have been terribly rude.

Shigure: No, there's no need to feel that way. If anything, I should be apologizing. I have failed you.

Velouria: Shigure... May I keep this painting? Perhaps it will grow on me.

Shigure: Of course!

Velouria: Thank you. I will...ah...look at it. Certainly. Yes.

(Velouria leaves)

Shigure: *sigh*

A Support

Velouria: You called for me?

Shigure: Yes. I redid the painting you requested of me.

Velouria: You redid it? From scratch?

Shigure: Yes. This time, I tried to paint your things as true to the originals as possible. It is not quite as colorful, but you may like it better. Here.

Velouria: ... This...

Shigure: P-perhaps I stuck too close to reality. It's mostly just black and brown...

Velouria: It's wonderful!

Shigure: Huh?

Velouria: I love it! You have the best taste! I've never known an eye so keen! You have truly captured my treasures. Thank you so much, Shigure!

Shigure: Really? I'm so glad you like it!

Velouria: You got it to me at the perfect moment, too. I cleaned out my tent this morning. My treasures had completely rotted, so I had to throw them out.

Shigure: I'm so sorry! That must have been very painful for you.

Velouria: It was. But now that I have this painting, it will be as though I never lost them! You've made me so very happy!

Shigure: I'm glad. So...you probably don't need the other painting anymore, do you? If you'd like, I can dispose of it for you.

Velouria: No!

Shigure: What? Why not? I thought you hated it.

Velouria: Well...it's true, it doesn't reflect my tastes very well. But...it's a gift from a friend. And that alone makes it worth treasuring.

Shigure: Velouria...

Velouria: So I will hold on to it. Peachy?

Shigure: As you wish. Thank you.

Velouria: No, thank you. I feel I owe you now, however. Perhaps I will give you one of my treasures. I did find a snake's hideout yesterday... Perhaps I will give you its skin when it molts.

Shigure: I-I can't wait.

S Support

Shigure: I think I finally understand.

Velouria: Hm?

Shigure: Why you like the treasures you do. Corpses, glass shards, rusty things. They are all things associated with death and decay. Nothing in life is permanent. People and things all fade, break, or molder away. Even the world must end at some point. But this transitoriness makes it beautiful. And I believe you are more in tune with this aspect of life than the rest of us. Most are much happier to deny it. But you embrace it.

Velouria: Hm...

Shigure: As an artist, I find such ways of thinking extremely interesting. I would like to talk to you about it more sometime. Perhaps...over tea?

Velouria: You mean...as a date? I would love to, Shigure! However...I don't know if you're right about my having any special intuition about death. I just like these things. There is no deeper meaning to it. But...perhaps we should discuss it more over tea.

Shigure: It would be my pleasure!
