Hinata: Shigure, are you painting again?

Shigure: Hello, Father. Sorry I didn't hear you come in. I know this is no time for painting, since we're at war and all.

Hinata: Hahaha! Stop fretting! I'm not here to scold you. I'm just a common swordsman, not an art critic. But I love your paintings. Who knows? If you keep practicing, maybe one day you could be a great artist.

Shigure: That's very kind of you to say, but I don't think I'm that skilled.

Hinata: You're a great kid, but where is your ambition? Don't waste your talent! Leave it to me. I'm going to help you become a great artist!

Shigure: What do you mean?

Hinata: Shhh, I'm trying to think. Hmmm... I've got it! How about we throw a big solo exhibition for all of your work?

Shigure: A-an exhibition? I could never do that! Besides, our troops are on the advance. The setup alone would be way more work than it's worth.

Hinata: No way! I don't think it will be that tough. All we have to do is rent a tent and announce it to the troops and villagers.

Shigure: B-but it seems so vain to reserve a whole tent just for my personal use.

Hinata: You know how your mom's songs help people relax? I really think your paintings might have the same power. This could benefit the whole community. Don't you think?

Shigure: I'm not sure...

Hinata: Hey, I'm not going to force you. But what do you think? Want to give it a shot?

Shigure: OK, fine... Maybe we should give the exhibition a try. But I have to admit that the idea makes me a little anxious.

Hinata: Don't be! Everyone is going to love it! Let's strike while the iron's hot. I'll go to town and recruit some helpers. I'll be back with some good news soon!

(Hinata leaves)

Shigure: Thank you, Father.

Shigure: Hello, Father...

Hinata: Oh, hey, Shigure! Say, you look a little sad. What's wrong?

Shigure: Well... You've done so much to make this exhibition a possibility. I just wanted to say thanks.

Hinata: Trust me, I haven't done anything special. The townsfolk have been doing most of the legwork. They're all excited for the show! Things are coming together quickly. And it's all because of you!

Shigure: O-oh, I see...

Hinata: Are you feeling nervous, Shigure?

Shigure: Of course. But mostly I'm concerned about my newest painting. It's just not coming together like I hoped it would.

Hinata: Is this the one you're working on just for the exhibition? Don't get me wrong—I'd love to see a new painting. But we're running out of time. Do you really need to finish it right now? You could always finish it after the show.

Shigure: I promised myself that I would get it done. So many people have come together to give me this opportunity. And the final piece really unites the show. I have to keep going.

Hinata: Well, it is your exhibition. I'll leave you to do what you think is best. Just do me a favor and don't push yourself too hard. All this hard work will be pointless if you make yourself sick.

Shigure: I'll be careful. Thank you, Father. I should probably get back to painting.

Hinata: Good luck!

(Shigure leaves) That kid sure is fired up. I wonder why he's so dedicated to that painting?

Hinata: Shigure's exhibition has finally begun! Time to take a peek inside. WOW! This is incredible! Look at the size of this crowd! Judging by the reactions, it seems like everyone loves the paintings! Good for you, Shigure! Wait, where is he? How could he be missing the show?

Shigure: *pant*...*pant*...

Hinata: Son! Why are you out of breath? Are you just now getting here? The exhibition has already begun. I can't believe that you're late!

Shigure: Sorry about that, Father. I've been up all night finishing my painting.

Hinata: ALL NIGHT?! Just for one more painting?!

Shigure: Y-yes...

Hinata: I just don't get it. Why would you do something so reckless? If you had made yourself ill, all this effort would have been pointless! Aren't there enough paintings on display? Take a look around. Can't you see how happy everyone is with your work?

Shigure: I see that. But I promised myself that I would complete it, no matter what. I made this because I'm thankful for everything you've done for me, Father.

Hinata: What?! Th-this is your mom...and me?

Shigure: Yes, it is...

Hinata: This is what you've spent all your time working on?

Shigure: Yes, Father. My love for you two cannot be measured. You brought me into this world. Without you, I never would have been able to paint. So I wanted to put all those feelings into this portrait.

Hinata: I-I'm so surprised... This is so thoughtful. Thanks, Son! Your mother is going to be so happy when she sees this.

Shigure: It hurts when you hug me so tightly, haha!

Hinata: You make me so proud! No one could ask for a better kid!

Shigure: I feel exactly the same way. I'm so proud to be your son.

Hinata: I guess we're both lucky! Wait, this isn't the time to get sentimental. We've got to get this painting on the wall!

Shigure: Are you sure?

Hinata: Of course I am! An exhibit that doesn't display its finest piece is like a dojo without any warriors. We've got to put this where everyone can see it. Right, Shigure?

Shigure: Sure. You're right, Father!
