Hayato: *mumble mumble*

Avatar: Oh, hey there, Hayato. Are you writing something? Your brow is all furrowed. Why do you look so intense?

Hayato: AH! Avatar?! Don't sneak up on me like that! I almost messed up. Then I would have had to rewrite this entire charm all over again.

Avatar: Oh, sorry about that. Say, what exactly is that thing you're working on anyway?

Hayato: Well, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to tell you. This paper contains a very special charm. I make them for people in the village. They can be used for all kinds of purposes. To provide protection, aid a harvest... Whatever you need, really.

Avatar: Interesting. I don't think I've ever heard of something like that.

Hayato: Well, these are my own creations. I write a unique spell on each one. They are extremely effective.

Avatar: Hmm. So what is this one for exactly?

Hayato: This is for the Wind Tribe's upcoming festival. They really want it to be a success. I couldn't possibly turn them down.

Avatar: So you're sending this one back to them. I have an idea! You're already giving them this charm. Why not include a letter too?

Hayato: A letter? Wh-what do you mean?

Avatar: There are probably people in the village who are concerned about you, right?

Hayato: I am an adept diviner. There's no reason for me to report to the village. And besides, I still have work to do. Please, leave me alone. Ahh!

Avatar: You just dropped something, Hayato. I-is that an unfinished note?

Hayato: N-no, of course not! Don't even think about trying to read it!

Avatar: Ha! So you were already working on writing a letter? Why are you acting so odd? I don't understand what the big deal is.

Hayato: The truth is...I can't write one.

Avatar: Huh? What do you mean?

Hayato: I've never written a letter before, OK? I just don't know what I'm supposed to say! Are you happy now?!

Avatar: Calm down. Now I understand why your letter was only half-written.

Hayato: Will you show me how to finish it, Avatar?

Avatar: Huh? How can I help?

Hayato: You're the one who's been encouraging me to write. So come on, help me. It's basically your responsibility now. And it has to be a great one!

Avatar: That's a strange way to ask someone for a favor, Hayato. But I suppose helping you out is probably the right thing to do.

Hayato: Of course it is. Let's get to work!

Avatar: OK!

B Support

Hayato: Avatar, what exactly is supposed to go into writing a letter? I don't really know where to start.

Avatar: Well you're writing to the Wind Tribe. Perhaps you should let them know how you're doing. Have you gotten anything down on the page yet?

Hayato: Well, I explained how to use the charm that I'm sending and what it does.

Avatar: That's not a letter—it's merely a list of instructions. Letters should be personal. They should let the reader know what you're up to.

Hayato: It has to be personal, huh?

Avatar: Yeah, preferably. Oh, I have an idea. Tell them that you can finally sleep after you hear a scary story now!

Hayato: Wh-what are you talking about?! I've never had a problem with s-scary stories!

Avatar: Oh? That's not the rumor I heard. But fine, I'll think of something else. I'm sure they would be happy to hear about how much you've grown.

Hayato: No, absolutely not! I would much rather write about my accomplishments on the battlefield.

Avatar: Hmm, that's not a terrible idea. I saw you take on a whole group of Faceless just the other day. You really have been a wonderful asset on the battlefield, Hayato.

Hayato: Heh, you think so? That gives me some good ideas for my letter, actually.

Avatar: War stories it is. Good luck with your letter! Let me know if you need any help.

Hayato: OK, thank you. Say, maybe you should write a letter too.

Avatar: Oh? You think so?

Hayato: Yeah! It feels strange to be the only one writing one. Maybe you could entertain me with some of your tall tales? I love to read stories.

Avatar: So you want a letter, huh? Sure, I suppose I can do that.

Hayato: Great! That way, we can see who's the better letter writer. You or me! But just so you know, I don't plan on losing this competition.

Avatar: Heehee. Well I suppose that I'll have to do my best work then!

Avatar: Hey, Hayato! I finally finished my letter!

Hayato: Oh really? You have excellent timing.

Avatar: Oh? What do you mean?

Hayato: I finished my letter and sent it along with my charm to the Wind Tribe. I just received their reply, actually.

Avatar: That's great! What did they say?

Hayato: Apparently everyone in the village was pleased with the charm. It sounds like it was very effective. They also delighted in hearing about my success on the battlefield.

Avatar: That's wonderful. Are you glad that you sent them the letter?

Hayato: Of course. Clearly my letter went over incredibly well. I'd say that makes me the clear winner of our little letter battle, don't you think? That being said, I need to thank you. The letter was your idea, after all.

Avatar: I'm glad that I could help. Oh, I almost forgot. I finished my letter. Would you like to read it?

Hayato: Hmph, I guess so. Hand it over. Wh-what is this supposed to mean?!

Avatar: Hm? Is something wrong?

Hayato: Why is my name all over your letter? "Hayato has the finest handwriting. His charms are the finest around!" This is totally embarrassing! I thought you were going to talk about yourself!

Avatar: The thing is, I didn't know what else to write about. You already know about what's been going on with recent events. I couldn't think of anything else to say!

Hayato: That may be the case, but still... It's not very interesting to read two letters all about myself! I know what I have to do. I'll have to sit down and write another letter!

Avatar: Huh? What do you mean?

Hayato: I'm going to write a letter all about you! Then we can both be totally embarrassed. Maybe I'll even throw in one of my charms for good measure.

Avatar: Heh, it's almost like you and I have become pen pals or something.

Hayato: Yeah, you're right. I never realized that I enjoyed writing so much. First I'll jot down one for you, and then maybe I'll write to someone else too. You better look forward to it!

Avatar: I am, Hayato. I'm sure your letter will be fantastic!
