Shiro: Hello, Mom. Say, do you feel like doing something today?

Hana: Huh? What do you mean?

Shiro: Well, we didn't get to spend much time together when I was growing up, right? Maybe now we can make up for that with some mom-son bonding time!

Hana: What a sweet thought. Hmm... I can't really think of anything, though. Thank you though, Shiro. I'm happy to know you're thinking of me.

Shiro: Nothing springs to mind? How can we bond if you don't want to hang out? I mean, I can't spend time with Dad. He's always preoccupied with the war. I guess you don't see him much either. Has he ever even given you a gift or anything?

Hana: Sh-Shiro... He's not like that.

Shiro: Well, I'm not like HIM! I actually want you to know how special you are, Mom. Come on. Please! Can't you think of something you'd like to do?

Hana: Hahaha! Oh, Shiro...

Shiro: Wh-why are you laughing at me?!

Hana: You really shouldn't compare yourself to Ryoma, dear. Your father would be distressed to hear you speak this way. I am quite happy, you know. Your father has always treated me exceedingly well.

Shiro: Mom... Are you sure? He's never even here to show that he cares.

Hana: Ryoma loves me deeply. Perhaps you simply can't see it. If you really don't believe me, I can prove it.

Shiro: Hmm... I'm curious to see this so-called proof. I'll hold you to your word, Mom.

Hana: I won't let you down!

Hana: Shiro, do you have a moment?

Shiro: Oh, hello, Mom. Are those envelopes in your hand?

Hana: Yes, they are. They're the proof you were asking for.

Shiro: Ohh... Are they love letters?

Hana: Yes! I keep all of your father's letters. They're my dearest treasures. Let's see. This one here is the first... And this is the most recent.

Shiro: Wow, I had no idea that Dad was such a prolific writer.

Hana: He certainly is. I admit, I was rather surprised at the depth of his diligence. I never thought he would send me dozens of letters! Of course he discusses his feelings in person too. But I think writing allows him to be totally free with his emotions. I really love that side of him. Heehee... You look surprised.

Shiro: I've always thought that Dad was just a stiff and formal guy. Maybe I've been wrong all along. Tell me, what does he write about?

Hana: Shiro, I can't tell you. These letters are meant only for me.

Shiro: Now I'm even more curious! I suppose knowing how much you two care about each other will have to do.

Hana: Wonderful. And of course, we love you, too!

Shiro: I-I know that! But thanks for saying so.

Hana: Heehee!

Shiro: Hey, Mom! Do you have a minute to spare?

Hana: Certainly. What's up, Shiro?

Shiro: Well, after you showed me Dad's letters, I started thinking... I thought maybe I'd try writing out my thoughts and feelings too. You know, what it's like to be your son... that kind of thing.

Hana: Wow, really? How kind, Shiro!

Shiro: I don't know. Now it just doesn't seem good enough.

Hana: Eh? What do you mean?

Shiro: It's not very special if I'm just doing the same thing Dad does, right? That's why I've decided to treat you to a special meal too!

Hana: A meal?

Shiro: Yeah. Anything you want! Well, anything I can find in the forest at least. I can't get started until you tell me what you'd like to eat. What sounds good?

Hana: Oh, umm, let's see... Can I think it over?

Shiro: You bet! I guess it would be hard to think of something off the top of your head. Just let me know! Most importantly, I've got a leg up on Dad!

Hana: Shiro, this isn't a competition. You can't win or lose.

Shiro: But I'd fail you as a son if I didn't make you happy.

Hana: Oh, Shiro. Your father once said nearly the same thing to me.

Shiro: He did?!

Hana: Um, if I remember right, very similar. "I'd fail you as a husband if I don't always make you happy." Heehee. You really are his son.

Shiro: Damn it! He always has the upper hand!

Hana: Hahaha! Don't be ridiculous. The fact that you care so much means a great deal to me, Shiro.
